The story behind the song “Jolene,” according to Dolly herself, is that there was a lady down at the bank making eyes at Dolly’s longtime husband, Carl Dean (who sadly died earlier this year). Now I don’t think Dolly Parton had anything to worry about, but I love that she turned that bank woman trying into a hit. Dolly could turn any dang moment into a hit.

In fact, on the day she wrote “Jolene,” Dolly also wrote another hit, “I Will Always Love You.” The same day. The same evening. Two #1 Billboard Country Music hits. Snopes gathers the evidence to prove it.
