Submitting, part three
I was being Ms. Reality yesterday, and she’s no fun. I still stand by what I said in that post, but now I would also like to say this:
Sometimes you have to take a chance.
A couple of times in my writing life, I’ve sent out a story to a contest or a magazine thinking: Well, even if I don’t win, I could still be considered for publication. Or Even if I don’t get accepted, I get a subscription to the journal.
Submitting is sort of like sending questions out into the universe. Sometimes the answer will surprise you.
So Ms. Reality had her say, and now Ms. Dream-a-Little will have hers. Get your piece of writing to the point at which you think pretty highly of yourself, and then give it a try. The worst that can happen is that the universe will say Not yet.
